Ferrari’s Brazilian driver Felipe Massa has said that he is extremely sure that the Spaniard Fernando Alonso will be helping him if he is with the chance to win the world championship title. Massa’s future in the sport was in doubt after a poor first half of the season. He was out of contract at the end of the season, which raised doubts whether he would continue in the sport. However, he managed a stunning comeback in the second half of the season and almost managed to match his teammate Fernando Alonso. This helped him get a new contract with the Italian team.
Massa helped Alonso to sustain his title challenge in the final few weeks of the season. Now, he has said that he is extremely confident that Alonso will return the favour if he is the one fighting for the title. Massa has said that every team wants to have competitive drivers and it is what exactly Ferrari have at the moment. Massa has recalled how he and his former teammate at Ferrari – Kimi Raikkonen – helped each other when it came to the world championship title. Massa suffered a major injury a few years ago, which has reduced his performance levels until his comeback in the second half of last season.
“I can’t imagine a team not wanting two competitive drivers. We are fighting for two titles and I am sure the team will help me if it turns out that my situation was the same as the one that meant Fernando was a contender these past years. I remember when Kimi [Raikkonen] was my team-mate and how much we helped one another from one season to the next. It’s the same with Fernando, it’s team work, while the harmony between us is a help, as it would be in any job,” said Massa.
